Genesis 1:1 says, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:2 then says, "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep."
But here is what most people miss: the Hebrew word translated "was" is hayah โ which most accurately means became. The earth did not come from God's creative hand in a state of darkness and emptiness. Something happened. This lesson explores what, when, and why โ and what it means for our understanding of God's Word, creation, and prophecy.
